About the Place

SHILLONG :  Shillong or Scotland of the East is one of the most romantic cities in the northeast. And when you visit it, you'll just about know why. A relatively unexplored land, splendid visions of rows of pine trees, lush hills and quaint cottages greet you, all reminiscent of the British era gone by. The city derives its name from the 'Leishyllong', the super God who resides on the Shillong peak, as if protecting the city. There might not be much to do here except relax and soak in the legends that resound in every house. The polo ground almost wears a forlorn look minus the horses and forest conversation efforts have narrowed your chances of bagging an exquisite wooden ware. Nevertheless, Shillong abounds in such natural beauty that is definite to awe you.

GUWAHATI : Guwahati is the commercial capital city of the northeastern state of Assam. Formerly known as Pragjyotishpur (the City of Eastern Light), Guwahati is the biggest city of Assam in India. Its etymological root is derived from two Assamese words, "Guwa," meaning areca nut and "Haat," meaning market. Fixed between the picturesque hills of the eastern flanks of the Himalayan mountain range, Guwahati houses the political capital of the state, Dispur. The gateway to the seven other northeastern states, also referred as seven sisters, Guwahati is a vital tourist base point, besides being an attraction in its own. One must visit the Guwahati Zoo during Guwahati tourism, which is the largest natural zoo of the country. Guwahati tourism is particularly famous for its Kamakhya temple located atop the Nilachal hill, Above Kamakhya is another small temple, Bhubaneshwari, from where one can have a bird's eye view of the Guwahati. The Shiva temple of Umananda, reached by motor boats and public ferries from Umananda Ghat, Atop a hill in east Guwahati is the Navagraha temple - the "temple of nine planets," - an ancient seat of astrology and astronomy.

KAZIRANGA : Kaziranga is the title of the remarkable success story for the conservation of One Horned Rhinoceros in India as well as other wild lives of North East India. It is homeland of One Horned Rhinoceros, and offers shelter to different wild lives. It is amongst the significant natural home for the conservation of biological biodiversity for universal value. The criteria and values made the Kaziranga National Park to have included in World Heritage Site List of 1985. Kaziranga National Park has area of 429.93 Sq. km. having added area of 429.40 Sq.Km., situated in two districts of the Assam, namely Nagaon and Golaghat. Total area of park in Nagaon district is around 175 Sq.Km. from which 135 Sq.Km. comes under the Bagori Forest Range and 40 Sq.Km comes under Ghorakati Forest Range. Situated on banks of mighty Brahmaputra River within far North East in India, the Kaziranga National Park includes area of around 430-sq-kms within its swamps as well as tall thickets of the elephant grass, with making it ideal habitat for Indian One-Horned Rhino. Because of limitless poaching of that prehistoric survivor, Kaziranga National Park is the birding paradise. Grasslands are the raptor country, which may be seen on the safari, making it a remarkable experience. It includes Black-Shouldered Kite, Himalayan Griffon, Oriental Honey Buzzard, White Tailed Eagle, Brahminy Kite, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, Black Kite, Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, etc. Enormous numbers of drifting birds descend on parks lakes as well as marshy areas during the winters, including the Bar-Headed Geese, Greylag Geese, Gadwall, Ruddy Shelduck, Red-Crested Pochard, Falcated Duck, and Northern Shoveller.
